Maybe you are one of those people who, every Jan. 1, sets a stern, ambitious resolution and sticks to it each and every day, having been magically transformed overnight into a shinier, better version of your old self. Maybe also you are a unicorn! This blog does have a wide readership.
More likely you hit that ugly resolution wall around Jan. 15, feeling like a failure for not having become something different via pure force of will. That is OK. Seriously. Resolutions are usually dumb and ineffective.
But every single one of us can decide, this coming year, to do things, say, 7 percent better than we did last year. Right? We are all a year smarter, a year more compassionate, a year less teenager-y.
I am going to try to take care of my own shit a little bit better. If I spend 5 minutes a day looking to the future rather than stick to my usual Wait for things to blow up -> React hysterically formula, my life will be happier this year.
Either way, I hope this is a good year for everyone. Yay for the happy things, bad things, sad things, exciting things, unexpected things and beautiful things in store for each of us. Happy 2013!
